Since Tim first saw the 1956 movie "The Mountain" as a young boy his single focus has been to paint landscapes. By age 13 he was drawing the famous Matterhorn after his parents bought him Edward Whympers book "Scrambles Amongst the Alps" which details his attempts to climb the Matterhorn, including many of his personal sketches.
Tim was born and raised in Oklahoma where he studied with many of the areas most well known artists. He spent most of his evenings copying paintings from art instruction books and teaching himself how to paint from photographs. "I used to frustrate my teachers because I wouldn't copy the photo exactly. I've always used a photograph just as a starting place, not as a finishing place. Photos show detail but no emotion, I try to capture the emotion I feel and let the details fall where they may."
Now an award winning artist, he has appeared in many books and publications including his own art instructional book written for North Light Book Club.
SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT
Just to let everyone know, I've been awarded Signature Member status with OPA (Oil Painters of America). This is very difficult to obtain and certainly quite a privilege. I've been a member for 5 years, won Awards of Excellence in 4 consecutive national juried OPA shows and applied for Signature status 3 times. Here is a brief excerpt from the letter I received:
"At its December meeting the OPA Board of Directors approved the award of Signature Member status to you for showing remarkable talent in the paintings that you have exhibited at the national OPA shows."
Let me recommend joining OPA for all of you oil painters out there. You may check out their site at www.oilpaintersofamerica.com.
